Pixie Sparkle is Back

Is your Elf on the Shelf in quarantine this Christmas?

The girls have been asking us for weeks if Pixie Sparkle will be returning for Christmas this year in light of the global pandemic. While I appreciate the opportunity they gave us to bail on hosting one of Santa’s friendly watchdogs we have decided to give Pixie Sparkle the green light to visit us for the holiday.

Pixie Sparkle joined our family last year and surprisingly she was a welcomed addition. Ella begged us to adopt an Elf but I was pretty against it. The last thing I wanted to do at midnight was to stage an animal house scene of destruction with a tiny doll who admittedly stalks my children to elicit good behavior. Well, after a few months of the girls behaving badly, I caved. I was at my breaking point and was willing to try anything to get them to listen and follow directions. So, I sent Santa a text and told him we were ready-deploy the Elf!

From the first day Pixie arrived there was something magical about her the joy and wonder my girls experienced while she lived with us was so fun to watch. It was also fun for this momma bear to help Pixie Sparkle try new things. She had some crazy nights from the roller coaster ride with Ken and the Barbies in our dryer to the night the milk went bad and tied her up with duct tape and left her in the refrigerator. As the weeks went on it became harder and harder to come up with fun ideas for her that didn’t involve mass destruction. Our Elf has a touch of OCD and never left a mess.

This year I have some friends that are going with the whole COVID theme but I am not going there. Our kiddos have enough of that to worry about in their daily lives and the point of the Elf on the Shelf is to be a fun distraction. Thankfully, I found a local Elf on the Shelf loving mom who actually creates and assembles Elf kits for parents who don’t want the stress of coming up with three weeks of ideas.  She provides a list of 28 days of adventures for your Elf as well as the supplies needed to pull it off. Then she puts each day into a zip lock bag and numbers it. It is fatigue proof. Some of Pixie Sparkle’s adventures will include a scavenger hunt, a popcorn party in the microwave, bringing a snowman back from the North Pole, getting in her daily workout etc. There is even a COVID screening card if your Elf needs to take it easy. It’s a brilliant gift for tired Moms and Dads who still want to bring on the fun.

I am sure our Pixie will have some unique experiences of her own but it is nice to know I am armed with a plethora of ideas and supported another busy momma at the same time.

Now go move that friggin’ Elf!
